It is with immense joy and thankfulness that I write this post today! As of today, April 11, 2014, Cindy and I are completely debt free! I wrote the check to pay off the remainder of the mortgage on Beatitude today. This will be the first time in 38 years that I have not been in debt. I hope to remain this way for the rest of my time on earth.
Although simply being debt free after four decades of indebtedness is exciting enough, there is another thrilling byproduct of reaching this milestone of financial freedom. There is nothing more standing in the way of us starting our cruising adventures! With that being said, I have fast forwarded the countdown clock on our home page to read 3 months, 4 weeks, and 2 days. Our initial goal was to be debt free as of January of 2015, but by the grace of God, we have reached that goal early. As a result, five months have been shaved from our countdown! The new day of departure is set for August 10 of this year. I will continue to work a lighter schedule for the next year or so after leaving in order to pay for our youngest daughter’s ongoing college education, to fund our cruising adventure, and to build a little cushion to support our cruising for a while into the future. It will be a couple of years until we will be able to cruise without working at all.
So, why not cast off the dock lines now? Well, I am pretty much obligated to work a normal schedule in April and May. We could conceivably leave mid-June, which I would be all for, but Cindy is not quite ready to go. I think she is finding it difficult to cut off her shoreside relationships, so I will attempt to suppress my eagerness to go until she is ready. We have compromised on the August date. Until then, we’ll continue to get ready.
P.S. – This past week we were thrilled to have some friends from Ohio stay overnight with us. Terry and Fay Eddy were passing through while vacationing in Florida and graced us with their presence. It was good to catch up and share the stories of our lives since we last were together.
